Fuck Yeah Sorority Life

I am a sociology major at my college and am about to graduate, and while I am SO excited, I am kinda sad I will not lie, mainly because of my sorority sisters. They have taught me so much, and have helped me grow in more ways than I could ever imagine. I feel blessed and lucky. While sometimes what they do may go unnoticed, I appreciate every single one of them for their quirks, beauty, intelligence, and humor. I wish I could just shout it out all the time, but sometimes its the simple things that one can do that make the biggest difference. 

I get asked a lot by followers and friends, why should I join a sorority?

Honestly, you will not just find friends or “sisters” but people who will care for you through thick and thin. People who will open their door for you to cry. People to laugh with, fight with, share clothes with, but most of all grow with you. It’s funny because most of the time the friends you meet freshman year of college you lose throughout the years, but in a sorority you are always in contact and connected with those around you. Even after sisters graduate they are always a phone call away and even constant visitors back to the sorority house, this is also how you know it made an impact on their life. That even after they graduate they still see their sorority house as their home, even if it was in the past, and they will fight for that home.

I definitely would say join, but choose wisely. Choose a sorority in which upholds your individualized values, and also makes you feel at home. Never change yourself to fit in, but instead be molded by the beauty of your sisters when you find a home in a natural pattern of growth in life, not because of pressures. I have seen so many friends from freshman year change because they felt as if they had to keep up with appearances and “fit in” with their sisters. When you join a sorority you shouldn’t have to “fit in” and “follow” others, instead be accepted for who you are, and every sister lead together. 

While the semester is coming to an end in about a month, I know that I will miss my home away from home, and while a new life waits for me after college, one thing is certain V.A.E. comes with me. I promise to gather strength as I go, and help lead others and show the values of my sorority. I am so thankful for every sister of mine, no matter the good times and bad because without them, I would only be half the person I am today.
